YOUNG SKIN (WITHOUT ANTI-AGEING CREAMS)

As you all know, my skincare routine is pretty complex (to say the least!) with various creams, peelers and face masks. There are several steps to each routine, which varies depending on the time of day, and the day of the week. All to maintain a somewhat youthful looking skin.

But there are so many other factors that goes in to skin maintenance, which are as important (if not more) than the standard anti-ageing creams. And as the skin connoisseur I am, I am of course all read up on these nice-skin-must-do’s and have implemented them into my everyday life. They are as follows:

Silk pillow

Not only do you feel like the ultimate princess (mine is pink as well, duh..), but it is a great way to reduce the friction against the skin that a normal pillow case would have, which means you are reducing the risk of getting wrinkles. It is great for you hair as well, as the silk does not damage the hair in the same way a normal pillow case would. So it really is a win-win situation!

Diet

I can count on one hand the amount of spots I have had since becoming vegan (and no I am not on the pill). I have literally only had 2 very small spots in 1 1/2 years (and that has been in correlation with my period – damn you, mother nature!). This is because there is a link between dairy and acne, and once you cut it out of your diet you will most likely see a change. I have always had good skin, but even I saw a massive difference when switching to a vegan diet. Plants for the win!

Supplements

Since becoming vegan I have also taken a dive into the world of supplements. I want to stress that that take these as a part of my normal vegan diet, because there are a few vitamins that I do not get naturally on a vegan diet and so I have to take them in supplement form. So because I started taking a specific supplement for vegans, and really saw the benefits, I decided to get one for skin, hair and nails as well. I am not sure how they are working to maintain skin, and I cannot say that the wrinkles I already had have been reduced, but nevertheless, my hair has grown like crazy and my skin feels radiant – so it must be doing something (or it might just be the vegan diet, who tf knows?!).

Water

We all know this one, myself especially, and it is only really in the last year I have become better at drinking water. By drinking water you get rid of the skins toxins and help achieve that nice glow. Drinking water is also good for the body in general, so even if you are not fussed about your skin you should be drinking around 8 glasses of water a day… if only it was wine!

Sleep

I always tell people that I need at least 8 hours of sleep each night, preferably 9 because then I will be in a very good mood 🙂 But not only does the amount I sleep have a positive impact on my mood, it also has a positive impact on my skin. When you do not sleep enough this decreases the moisture levels and pH complexion in your skin and gives it less of a glow. To give an example, when I was in my early 20s, I was going out almost every night and although I did not have any fine lines, you could really tell that my skin looked tired and unhealthy and almost ’old’. Now, I have fine lines in my forehead, but my skin has never been as radiant and had so much glow to it because I prioritise sleep, which means I actually look better now than I did back then!
